Hosting Students is always memorable.
Taking care of students can be a highly rewarding and enjoyable experience, often resulting in new lifelong friendships. It introduces you and your family to a whole new world of learning while making a very important difference to a student’s life. It’s also a great way to make new friends.
We love having the Spanish children come to stay with us. They are always extremely polite and well mannered. Our son loves having some friends to play with during the week of their stay, its great how kids get on so well even with the language barrier, and all have the same type of interests football and xbox! We all feel very at home with the students staying with us and it really helps to have email contact with them before they come to visit.
Its amazing how well we all get on together with the help and support of Penny
What does hosting involve?
For many of our students coming to Oundle is often their first time away from home and their parents, so they can feel very shy especially when they first arrive. Our host families are very important in making them feel welcome, comfortable and reassured and helping them to enjoy every moment of their English experience. Staying with a local family enables young students to gain new confidence and learn about a different culture while improving their English by practising in real life situations.
Your student will need:
- their own comfortable private bedroom
- a packed lunch
- an evening meal
A maximum of two students can be hosted at any one time. Students normally stay for seven nights and sometimes for two weeks in July.
Antler Languages provides all the necessary support and contributes a generous weekly fee of £25 per student per night (£175 per week)
We work with hosts from Oundle, Peterborough, Corby, Thrapston, Irthlingborough and Kettering and many of the surrounding villages.
Sometimes we also need hosts for the teachers who accompany study groups or for business professionals studying English with us in Oundle. Please contact us if this would be of interest to you.
Our English Programme
Younger students, aged 11 – 17 take part in a comprehensive study programme including English classes in Oundle during the mornings with cultural and leisure activities in the afternoons. We also visit London and Cambridge or another famous city which is all organised by Antler Languages.
What’s it like being a Host Family?
Perhaps the best way to answer that is with a letter written by a previous student to her Host Family:
Thank you for this weeks because I have a funny moments with you. When I was in Madrid before my trip I was very nervous but now I don’t want to go back home.
I will miss all the things that we used to do this weeks like when we have a breakfast or dinner in the garden (I love your garden) When I got up in the morning and we had a breakfast and we talked about the strange weather of England while we ate the English breakfast with toast, eggs etc Also I will miss your lunch because you are a very, very good cook! So thank you, thank you so much. I will miss you a lot and I will miss Oundle, your beautiful house and garden…and a lot of things that we haven’t got in SpainLaura
