Becoming an Antler Languages Host Family
Hosting students can be a highly rewarding and a very pleasurable experience, often resulting in new lifelong friendships. Taking care of a young student is always memorable and introduces you and your family to a whole new world of learning. You will also make new friends while making a very important difference to a student’s life.
“We love having the Spanish children come to stay with us. They are always extremely polite and well mannered. Our son loves having some friends to play with during the week of their stay, its great how kids get on so well even with the language barrier, and all have the same type of interests football and xbox! We all feel very at home with the students staying with us and it really helps to have email contact with them before they come to visit.
Its amazing how well we all get on together with the help and support of Penny.”

What does hosting involve?
For many of our students studying English in Oundle is often their first time away from home and their parents, so they can feel very shy especially when they first arrive. Our host families are very important in making them feel welcome, comfortable and reassured and to enjoy every moment of their special experience. Staying with an local family enables young students to gain new confidence and learn about our own culture while improving their English by practising in real life situations
Your student will need:
- their own comfortable private bedroom
- a packed lunch
- an evening meal
A maximum of two students can be hosted at any one time. Students normally stay for seven nights and sometimes for longer in July.
Antler Languages provides all the necessary support and contributes a generous weekly fee for hosting students. Our host families live in Oundle, Peterborough, Corby, Thrapston, Irthlingborough and Kettering and many of the surrounding villages.
Our English Programme
Boys and girls, aged 10 – 17 have a comprehensive programme including English classes in Oundle during the mornings with sports and leisure activities in the afternoons. We also visit London and Cambridge and other famous cities all organised by Antler Languages.
Your student will be very busy from Monday to Saturday. You are more than welcome to drop your student off in Oundle after 8.15am and collect them again between 5.30 and 6pm in the evening.
Host Family Sunday is a special day when you are to free to plan some time with your student, perhaps to enjoy a walk and picnic in the countryside or introduce them to other members of your family.
What’s it like being a Host Family?
Perhaps the best way to answer that is with a letter written by a previous student to her Host Family:
Thank you for this weeks because I have a funny moments with you. When I was in Madrid before my trip I was very nervous but now I don’t want to go back home.
I will miss all the things that we used to do this weeks like when we have a breakfast or dinner in the garden (I love your garden) When I got up in the morning and we had a breakfast and we talked about the strange weather of England while we ate the English breakfast with toast, eggs etc Also I will miss your lunch because you are a very, very good cook! So thank you, thank you so much. I will miss you a lot and I will miss Oundle, your beautiful house and garden…and a lot of things that we haven’t got in Spain.
